Prostate Problems and What Men Need to KnowSymptoms of an Enlarged Prostate Gland

If you’re a man suffering from urinary problems such as continued stream after completing urination, feelings of urgency, straining upon urination or just having problems initiating urination, you likely need to be seen by a urologist.  It’s not exactly clear to science just yet as to why continued growth of the prostate gland continues throughout some men’s lives, but Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (enlarged prostate) can cause a host of problems.

When males are born, their prostate weighs about 1.5 grams, the prostate then increases in size through different stages of puberty and generally speaking stops at around a normal weight of 18 grams at the age of 35.  In some cases, an abnormal prostate weight can reach up to 31 grams.   Scientists have placed bets that men who have masturbated heavily early on as an adolescents and those with elevated DHT levels go on to have problems such as enlarged prostate, prostate cancer and problems with premature ejaculation.

How Prostatitis and Hormones affect the Male Body

Testosterone plays a key part in a man’s body and is responsible for a lot of functions including sexual stimulation and ejaculation.  The amount of testosterone that is present in a man’s body dictates whether or not his prostate gland has to work harder.  In another words, the prostate is working double time and not getting enough vacation to send the proper messages to the body.  One of the jobs of the prostate gland is to convert testosterone to DHT.   When the prostate begins working too hard to produce DHT and inflated levels are present, this can cause problems with urination, overgrowth and sexual dysfunction.

It’s not just the hormones that are in crisis, but a man’s enzyme levels can be out of whack to when he is suffering from an enlarged prostate.  Two key enzymes that are important for proper prostate health are acid phospatase and alpha-glucosidase.  A man’s ability to balance out these two enzymes actually determines whether or not he is in control of his own body during the ejaculation process.

Telemedicine-What is it?

The use of telemedicine is changing the face of prostate cancer and premature ejaculation for some men and has proven successful in many cases.  Although similar in nature and physically linked, telemedicine between prostate cancer and premature ejaculation do differ somewhat.  With prostate cancer, telemedicine allows urologists to care for patients at a great distance using the use of robots connected to computers.  It is used for patients who do not have the ability to benefit from in-house hospital care, but still allows the urologists to treat them bedside.

Telemedicine treatment for premature ejaculation allows medical professionals to provide individual phone support for male patients for privacy reasons, but also the convenience of acquiring medical advice, specialized care plans and medicine available to them at a moment’s notice in order to best close the gap of physical distance. Embarking on these new technologies will both enhance care for prostate cancer as well as sexual dysfunctions such as premature ejaculation.
